FAQ: Solar Hot Water Systems
Q1 - How long is the payback period on a solar hot water system?
The payback period is dependent on how much energy bills rise in the future. The average gas bill has nearly doubled in three years and electricity has risen by sixty per cent. Fossils fuels are running out, thus the long term trend can only be a continued rise in energy bills. Investing in Solar Energy provides the unique opportunity to mitigate against these rises by purchasing energy at todays prices!Q2 - Is the UK suitable for Solar Energy?
Yes - The advanced solar systems installed by Solar Fusion were designed specifically for the northern hemisphere climate. They do not require direct sunshine but operate on radiated light. Therefore on a cloudy day our systems will still produce hot water.Ironically, global warming also means that the amount of sunshine over the UK is increasing every year, thus so will the performance of our systems.
Q3 - How much does hot water usage within my home contribute towards my overall energy bill?
Most people significantly underestimate the amount of hot water they use. Baths, showers, hot water drawn from a tap and hot-fill washing machines and dishwashers can contribute up to 75% of your overall heating bill. The average UK home retains heat far more efficiently than in the past. Double glazing and cavity wall and loft insulation are prime examples why UK homeowners use less oil or gas to heat their homes. It is only during the winter months that central heating is a large proportion of your heating bill.
Q4 - Is Solar Fusions Hot Water System user friendly?
Yes - we install a solar controller which will monitor the temperature of the solar panels and the temperature in the hot water cylinder. This will automatically turn the system on and off. No programming is required.Q5 - I still want to know how long it will take to recoup my initial investment!
Solar Fusion hot water systems are much more affordable than most people think. As a company we offer substantial marketing subsidies to help towards the cost of the system if you help promote our solar energy systems in selective areas. There is also a Government grant available. Therefore, in many cases payback can be as quick as 5-7 years.Q6 - I have a combi boiler, can I still have a solar hot water system?
Yes - however, a solar hot water system does require water storage, thus we would identify a suitable location for a new cylinder. The most common locations are in a old airing cupboard or up in your loft.Q7 - Are the solar panels noticeable on the roof?
Solar panels are very thin and are flush mounted on a roof. From a distance they look somewhat like a skylight or Velux window.Q8 - Can solar panels be mounted on a flat roof?
Yes - they can be mounted on a flat roof by using a stainless steel Flat Roof Frame. This is commonly used if you do not have a suitable south facing aspect of your roof.FAQ: Solar Photovoltaic Electricity Systems
Q9 - Is battery storage required?
No - our solar photovoltaic electricity systems are connected to the national grid, thus any electricity it produces that is not immediately used by yourself is credited to you account. You become your own mini power station!Q10 - How much roof space is required?
Solar Fusions standard installation is a 2kWh system that consists of 16 panels and will require a roof space of approximately 15m2. Solar Fusion can install smaller or larger systems, it all depends on how much space you have and how much money you want to spend!Q11 - Is there a solar Government grant available?
Yes - the Government will give you £2500 if you invest in a solar photovoltiac system.Q12 - Which areas in the UK does Solar Fusion Service?
